- A majority of the necessary property has already been acquired to accommodate the new route.
- Utilities and railroad facilities are being relocated as required.
- The project’s construction work is divided into a number of bid lettings called “work packages”.
- New roadway and bridges are being constructed with as little disruption as possible to the driving public.
- The new interstate will be connected to existing interstate and local streets.
- Once the new interstate is complete, the former I-40 alignment will be replaced by a local boulevard providing greater access to downtown.
