- January 2008: Demolition Contract let to bid.
- November 2007: Construction begins on new I-40 between Penn and Agnew, with Bridges and Frontage Road (Work Package 3.1).
- October 2007: Work Package 1.1C let to contract (Remove Existing Shields Bridge Grade and pave Shields Boulevard south of existing bridge and build new northbound side of Shields Bridge. Grade and drain I-40 mainline and UPRR from Shields west .6 miles. Drainage Structure at Lee Street; switch UPRR to existing Chickasha Lead tracks west of Shields.)
- October 2007: Work Package 4.2 let to contract. (Grade, Drain & Surface I-40 Mainline from Canal Bridges to south of existing alignment; Bridge I-B and Ramp Q from existing alignment to EB I-40; associated retaining walls.)
- September 2007: Work Package 3.1, let to bid (new I-40 between Penn and Agnew, with Bridges and Frontage Road)
- July 2007: BNSF Railroad Temporary Bridge and I-40 Canal Bridges projects complete
- July 2007: Permanent BNSF Railroad Bridge over future I-40 Starts Construction
- April 2007: Work Package 1.1B Contract, Permanent BNSF Railroad Bridge over future I-40 and Union Pacific Railroad, let to bid
- April 2007: ODOT selects Tetra Tech as on-call environmental mitigation consultant to be on call to perform environmental cleanup during construction in the interest of minimizing delay claims
- March 2007: The Technical and Citizen’s Advisory Committee meets at Union Station for further project updating.-ODOT holds a public meeting at the Cox Convention Center March 15th. The public viewed a short presentation on the projects environmental impacts, funding, right-of-way acquisition, Wheeler Park and tentative construction schedules. Displays and area experts for various aspects of the project are present for informal questions. Citizens are also invited to make written comments.
- February 2007: The Federal Highway Administration performs a Cost Validation Study on the Project Construction Cost Estimates.
-ODOT officially includes the mainline projects required to complete the I-40 Crosstown Relocation Project in its fiscally constrained 8-year Highway Construction Plan at the Highway Commission Meeting.
- January 2007: Constructability conferences on four highway projects anticipated to be let in 2007 are held individually with contractors after announcement to the Association of General Contractors.
- December 2006: The Technical and Citizens’ Advisory Committees reconvene for an update on the progress of the project.
- July 2006: Kick-off meeting for FEIS re-evaluation process is held July 13th
- March 2006: BNSF Railroad Temporary Bridge Project Starts
- February 2006: Demolition contract (Phase II) let for demolition of ammonia-based refrigeration plant.
- January 2006: Work package 1.1A (BNSF detour bridge) let to contract.
- November 2005: Groundbreaking Ceremony Construction Underway
- June 2005: First Reevaluation of the EIS
- March 2005: Utility relocations begin.
- April 2004: Final design work begins.
- March 2003: The first property is cleared.
- July 2002: Right of Way purchasing begins.
- May 2002: Record of Decision is signed by the Federal Highway Administration selecting Alternate D. The Federal Highway Administration authorized federal funds for right-of-way acquisition.
- February 2002: Final Environmental Impact Statement released to the public for viewing.
- July 2001: Preliminary engineering begins.
- March 2001- January 2002: A total of 64 oral and written comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement were received during the comment period, which was extended by ODOT in June 2001 in order to provide ample opportunity to receive and accept comments. These were addressed with responses and the final Environmental Impact Statement was developed.
- February 2001: Public hearing is held on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement at the Myriad Convention Center, requesting public comments.
- February 2000: Oklahoma City completes the Land Use and Mitigation Plan for the project.
- December 1998: Alternate D is announced as the preferred route.
- April 1998 - December 1998: The scale models of Alternates B-3 and D were displayed throughout the city to illustrate the features with each alternate and to aid in consensus building in the community.
- September 1996: A short list of alternates was chosen to include alternates A, B and D.
- July 1996: A list of seven core alternate routes were developed along with the “no build” option and Transportation Systems Management improvements. Each of the seven routes was eventually studied as elevated, ground and below ground level systems, making 21 routes total.
- January 1996: Citizens Advisory Committee and Technical Advisory Committee formed and first public meeting held at the Myriad Convention Center (now Cox Business Center).
- March 1995: Federal Register / Vol. 60, No. 61, March 30, 1995, original intent to reconstruct I-40 from Meridian Avenue on the west to the I-40/I235/I-35 interchange on the east.
